BRBS supports MDA Lock Up

Category: News & Events

One of our BRBS owners, Larry Oder, is participating to get “locked up” in order to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

He is supporting a girl named Lizzie who was diagnosed with SMA type 3 when she was two-years-old, a muscle-debilitating disease that can steal abilities many of us take for granted.

What is Muscular Dystrophy?

Muscular Dystrophy is a broad term for a group of serious genetic illnesses that attack the muscles causing weakness and degeneration of skeletal muscles that control movement. Most diagnoses occur in childhood, and MD is a lifelong progressive illness. Most forms of MD progress to the point that the patient will be wheelchair-bound and often have trouble with certain body movements such as breathing, swallowing, grabbing, and more. MD also causes chronic pain as the muscles deteriorate. Learn more at

How Can I Help?

Larry’s personal donation goal is $3,200, and he is a member of the Charlottesville/Richmond district, which, at the time of this article, has raised a total of $14,458.

You can help out by donating to Larry’s page or share this post on social media with the hashtag #MDALockUp. We are very proud as a business to support this great cause!

The MDA Lock Up event ends November 17th–however, you may still donate to the cause through December 17th.
