On April 1st, 1987, Blue Ridge Builders Supply opened its doors for public business in Crozet, and we haven’t looked back since. In those 30 years we’ve seen many things–a plethora of incredible employees, many interesting advances in the building industry, lots of growth within our community, and best of all, success as a locally owned business.
Before founding Blue Ridge Builders Supply, the three owners–Glenn Parsons, Larry Oder, and Dale Shumate–were employees of the big box store Lowe’s. Dissatisfied and yearning for a new work environment, the three put their heads together to design a new business that fulfilled their vision of being entrepreneurs, striving to change the face of the building industry as it was conventionally known. Their goal was to invent a business that would focus on excellent customer service, staying on top of building supply industry and offering the best that they could to the community.
The past 30 years, while rewarding, have not always been easy. From a rough recession in 2008, to making decisions on opening and consequently closing another location in Palmyra, the challenges have been ever-present but always worth the while.
Today, we operate a hardware, contractor, and homeowner sales store, along with a Benjamin Moore paint store, vast showroom, and large lumber yard all at our Crozet location. In Charlottesville, we merged our older Palmyra location to include another large showroom and Benjamin Moore paint store, focusing directly on paint and decorating needs.
Since 1987, Blue Ridge Builders Supply has stood by its reputation of integrity, friendliness, and service to its customers. We view our customers and employees as family and operate together as one–we couldn’t be the business we are without all of you. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for a fantastic 30 years; here’s to 30 more!
