Spotlight on our Specialists

Category: Spotlights

Have you ever wondered what it is that our specialists do behind the scenes? You as the customer get to see the outside process—discussing your project, placing your order, fine-tuning your details, etc., but you never really get to see what goes on the inside, aka: what your specialist’s job consists of.

We talked to four of our specialists from each department—cabinetry, window treatments, and windows & doors—to get a better understanding of how the wheels turn for them.

Cabinetry: Dianna Campagna & Kattie McPhail

Our main line of cabinetry is KraftMaid, a both traditional and contemporary brand aimed at giving your home functionality and style. Dianna Campagna at our Greenbrier store, and Kattie McPhail at our Crozet store work closely with KraftMaid as designers, helping bring their clients’ visions to life.

They don’t only work with cabinets, though or just KraftMaid. We also offer other brands at BRBS such as Wolf.

There’s a lot that goes into a cabinetry project: “granite, quartz, solid surface, acrylic countertops, some flooring, vanity tops, and bath cabinetry, [as well as] hardware for the cabinets,” Kattie adds.

A software called the 20/20 Program helps both Dianna and Kattie design their cabinets down to very fine details, assuring they achieve perfect dimensions.

“My 20/20 Program creates 3D imaging which makes it just as realistic as possible,” Dianna says.” Kattie likes to share with her customers what their space will look like using 20/20. “[I] show that customer what it will look like in 3D rendering. [This helps me] work with the client to give them their dream kitchen or bath”

Both specialists believe this is something useful that customers should be aware of when it comes to cabinet design. The program is very accurate.

According to Dianna, the most important and favorite parts of her job are simply listening and following through with a customer’s wants. “I listen to their needs and wants and try to meet what they desire within their budget,” she says. “Customer service and following a job from start to completion [is the most important]”.

Windows & Doors: Ron McManamay

BRBS carries an array of different window and door brands and choosing the right one for you can be a difficult task, but Ron McManamay is right there to help you make the right choice for your taste and budget. Our brands in this realm include Marvin and Integrity, Windsor, Lincoln, Sprouse Vinyl, and more.

“The myriad of window and door options available today can be overwhelming,” Ron explains. “And all the performance data and industry jargon gets confusing. I try to make it all relatable and help narrow the choices down to what the client really wants and needs.”

Ron is all about detail when it comes to being a window and door specialist. What takes up most of his time? “Accuracy and attention to detail,” he confidently says. “I try to triple check everything I do. And if I’m not sure I will go back to the job and measure it again. If custom made products don’t make you a little nervous, you’re not doing it right.”

His favorite part of being a window and door specialist? “The variety of challenges I get to work on. Also, all the pets I get to meet. From guinea hens to pibbles to zebras (yes, zebras).”

Window Treatments & Flooring: Steve Smith & Dianna Campagna

Steve Smith is our chief leader at the Crozet store assisting clients with Hunter Douglas window treatments as well as carpeting, flooring, and more, while Dianna works in these categories at our Greenbrier store. Flooring brands include Shaw, Armstrong, Palmetto Road, Kahrs, Metroflor, MSi Stone & Tile, IVC Flexitec, Impression, and Maine Traditions. That’s a lot of options!

Steve is always ready to lend a helping hand, though, all while still working and helping clients in the paint department as well. “I help my customers by physically showing them the options based on what they’re looking for, whether it be here at the store or in their home,” he says. “[I want to] make sure that I understand and deliver exactly what the customer is looking for.”

So, what is involved in helping customers get exactly what they’re looking for in a new window treatment or floor project?

“I have at least 4-5 appointments in a day,” Dianna explains. “My appointments range from measuring, to helping a customer with selections, to checking on installments, and ultimately completion of jobs,” she continues. “My day also consists of designing layouts, proposals, ordering, and some scheduling of deliveries. It’s important to me that I have a happy and satisfied customer.”

“[I] help customers choose colors for their home, whether it be paint, flooring, carpet or blinds,” Steve adds. “[as well as] how many color options and styles that there are to choose from.”
